Default Its a Soldier!!!

This a thread for any topic regarding soldiers. To start it off, who else thinks scouts are annoying as all hell? And is it me or does the soldier get a lot of crit rcokets?

Welcome aboard. It's good to see someone beside Tabris & me, showing some interest. [ and I've got no Live access, at the moment ]

I read somewhere that the number of Crits you get is random, and set by how high you've been scoring... (higher score ==> fewer Crits)

I've also heard that there is a Hack, by which the Host can not only turn Crits off/on, but also turn the frequency that everyone gets them up/down.

I too play a lot of soldier. (It's that class with what seems like the least annoying limitations, personally.)

If you're having problems with Scouts circling you, jumping on/over your head, I've got one word for you: Shovel. It's certainly not perfect ---but I can't stop laughing, the times I take someone out with melee.

The chances of crits are governed by how much damage you are dealing. If you have dealt more damage, then you get more crits.

The highest crit chance you can get is 25%, and every weapons starts out with a 13% chance.
Soldiers generally deal alot of damage, so when you get one in every 4 rockets as a crit, then it can seem like quite a bit.

Scouts are annoying as hell. I want to enact a lolocaust (NOT a holocaust) where the objective is to destroy as many scouts as possible. Who will join my cause?

To deal with scouts/pyros as soldier, I'd recomend that you rocket jump into the air, then take them out using the height advantage. You have to be a good and fast shot, though.

How do you rocket juggle, anyway? How do you predict where they are going to land/be relative to where the rocket will be?

Yes scouts are the most annoying thing. I usually end up blowing myself up when I try to kill them. But I usually just kill them easy it's just when they get close up to me.
@PezDispenser I thought there was an option to turn the crits on or off in the game. I could've sworn I saw one.

Yeah, I don't like Scout either. I'd be perfectly happy in a match with Scout disabled ---and while I don't think most players would notice, doing that usually gets people started talking about turning off classes that are more critical.

I also really enjoy getting a body hit on a Scout, with a rocket, at a distance ---but that's a low enough percentage shot, that I can't really recommend it.

I have to admit, I will play Scout, when a match is less than 5v5. . . I go around baseball-batting people, rather than capping or whatever, though. I figure less than 5v5 is "practice" ---I get pretty annoyed, when people act as though 4v3 is a full match.

@STETRII: Yeah, the Host can turn Crits off, but I've also played matches where --through some kind of hack/bug-- a [random?] player gets Host privledges, for that stuff. I guess that's better than a Hack that allows Crits to be turned off, for just one team ---but it could take awhile to figure it out, if someone actually did that one.

I really wish Valve had condescended to give us a manual, for the game. You have to read through tons of stuff on-line, to find mention of what's different, between the PC and console versions.

people can only learn so much from a guide, the more advanced soldier skills are from practice and determination

And the ability to predict the movement of your enemy. Prediction is the key to mastering the Soldier class.
